Alister Mackenzie was born in 1870 to Scottish parents in Yorkshire, England, and earned a medical degree from Cambridge University, although he eventually abandoned his studied profession for a career in golf course architecture. One of the first golf course architects to advocate strategy over a penal design, his courses are enjoyed by players of all skill levels while still challenging the most experienced golfers. At Cypress Point, overlooking the Pacific, Mackenzie made good work of one of the most enviable sites in the whole world of golf. Bobby Jones was so impressed with this course that he decided to ask Mackenzie to co-design Augusta National.The first in sculptor Ron Tunison's new architectural legends series.Golf Links to the Past and renowned sculpture Ron Tunison are proud to offer this striking likeness of Alister Mackenzie in a cold-cast edition of 350. Each sculpture is 18" tall and is mounted on a solid walnut base.

A.W. Tillinghast was known for his perceptive eye and uncanny intuition, it was not uncommon to find him tromping through the brush in a three-piece suit during the early stages of course design and construction. He was very much a hands-on architect who liked to make his designs ?in the dirt.? relying on the inspiration of the moment to fashion the details of each hole as it emerged from the landscape. Once completed, his courses were strategic gems that provided an excellent test of shot making.
