Other onscreen controls allow pitch bend range adjustment, pick noise and fret noise controls, release layer controls, adjustable velocity curve, and instant and detailed control over EQ. A comprehensive selection of effects is included, including an octaver, compression, saturation, lo-fi, distortion, limiter, phaser, flanger, chorus, reverb, and delay. Performance features include an innovative legato tool designed for true finger-smooth playing, and a customizable vibrato engine with control over vibrato types, speeds, and depths. Rather than opting for traditional LFO-based vibrato, BASiS uses a sophisticated character vibrato modeled after real bass players, completely controllable from the keyboard and onscreen interface. Randomized pick noises, release samples, and fret noises add to the realism of each instrument.BASiS is powered by the popular KONTAKT Player 2 engine, offering total integration into all major sequencers via its AudioUnit, VST, and RTAS plug-ins, as well as standalone operation. It also works perfectly within both KONTAKT 2 and KOTAKT 3.BASiS includes an impressive number of features and custom engines designed specifically for this library tailored to the unique characteristics of the basses.Amp/DI Control Each electric bass includes an Amp/DI balance knob, allowing full blending control between phase-accurate samples of the direct bass signal and an amped recording of the same take. The user can turn the knob to output 100% of one or the other, or blend the two seamlessly, resulting in a vast amount of tonal variety to help the bass fit into any mix. For convenience, the knob can also be controlled via external MIDI continuous controllers. A similar control is available in the upright bass, but it blends the direct signal with a miced signal.Realism Engines A number of custom engines are designed to contribute to the realism of the sound. A breakthrough intelligent legato mode allows for real finger legato playing, and the engine automatically responds to the playing style to interpret a realistic legato. Adjustable pick noise, fret noise, and finger releases (the sound of the finger lifting off the string at the end of each note played) help recreate the basses with complete authenticity. Hofner Master violin maker Karl Höfner founded his own stringed and fretted instrument company in Schönbach, Germany in 1887. With a reputation for quality, craftsmanship and innovation, Höfner soon became the largest manufacturer of stringed and fretted instruments in Germany. Thus, in 1907 Karl Höfner was entrusted with the repair of the violin of the Saxon King, and the master performed his job to the full satisfaction of his client. When his two sons, Josef and Walter, joined their father's company in 1919 and 1921 respectively, acoustic guitars already represented a significant part of Höfner’s instrument production. In a market dominated by inexpensive student guitars during the 1920s and 1930s, Höfner guitars were already establishing new standards and the company capitalized on that leadership during the decades that followed. In 1955 Walter Höfner, a creative businessman as well as a violin and guitar maker, invented an electrically amplified semi-acoustic bass. The distinctive 500/1 bass was launched at the 1956 Frankfurt Music Fair and subsequently rose to fame under a different name. In 1961 Paul McCartney bought his first Höfner bass in a music shop in Hamburg. The shop is called Electric Sound Products, or ESP. 1976-1982 ESP gains attention as a reputable provider of high-quality replacement parts. ESP also begins crafting the first complete guitars under the ESP and Navigator brand names for the Japan market. 1983 ESP replacement parts for electric guitars and basses are introduced to the US market. 1984-1985 ESP begins creating custom instruments for local New York artists and top session players. Some very early ESP users included Bruce Kulick (KISS) Carmine Rojas (David Bowie), Ronnie Drayton, Vernon Reid (Living Colour), and Page Hamilton (Helmet). ESP debuts their first signature model, the George Lynch Kamikaze. ESP is now based in a loft in downtown New York on 19th Street. 1989 Kirk Hammett’s signature ESP KH-2 is introduced. Here is a new bass pickup that is certainly different from the rest: The new Schatten Bass-10. Designed to accurately bring out the sound of your bass, it installs quickly and easily to your favorite instrument. Twin piezo elements working on two different planes contact four moving surfaces which all sample vibration from your bass at the same time. As can be seen in the photo, there are two piezo sensor elements in the pickup system. One is placed over the bass side wing slot while the second piezo element is placed on the inside of the bass leg. An adjustable post is fitted between that element and the opposite bridge foot. The adjustable post helps to drive this second element and makes this entire pickup system unique in its design concept and performance. The sound of this pickup is full and clear with no false fattening of the tone of the instrument. The Bass-10 will give you the sound of your bass, only louder. It is dynamically accurate with no false colorization built in. The Bass-10 was designed for use with a preamp but it is available in both active and passive formats. With this active version, the preamp and battery unit simply attaches to the back of the tailpiece with some really strong self-adhesive velcro. Total weight of the preamp/battery unit (with battery) is a lightweight 3 1/2 ounces. The entire pickup system may be installed 'permanently' or it may be taken on and off as many times as you may wish. For temporary installations, the piezo sensing units attach to the bridge surfaces with a little bit of non-marring putty. For more 'permanent' installations, the piezo units will each attach with a small square of 3M VHB self adhesive foam tape. You can still take the pickup off without issues if you use the VHB tape, it's just that the tape sticks on quite strongly.
