I ordered a bedding set on February 18th and my credit card was promptly charged over $500. Since I selected special order items the site said it could take 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. At 4 weeks I called customer service for the first time to check the status of my order and cancel one of the items. I was told the order had not yet shipped but would any day and that they would attempt to cancel the one item and get back to me with confirmation in 24-48 hours. I heard nothing back. At five weeks I called to check the status of my order and the cancellation. I was told that the cancellation went through and that my order would soon be shipping. At six weeks I called to check the status of my order and was told that the paperwork had actually been lost and they had just re faxed the order to the manufacturer. When I asked if this meant I would have to wait another 4-6 weeks for my order, the answer was "hmmm I don't think so". When I indicated that was not an acceptable answer the rep said she would find out and call me back that day. Three days later I received a generic email indicating they still did not have an answer for me. I immediately called customer service and asked to speak to a supervisor. Of course, none were available but I received a promise that one would call that day. At this point I called the manufacturer myself. The manufacturer was very helpful and let me know they hadn't even received my order until two days prior. After hearing my story, they promised to try and get my order out the next day. I also found out that their orders generally do not take 4-6 week to ship as indicated by Baby Universe. Their orders actually usually ship within 10 days. When the Baby Universe supervisor finally called me I got no better information or help just a lot of excuses.
In summary, Baby Universe charged me over $500 and kept the money for over 6 weeks before even forwarding the order to the manufacturer. This, I believe, is actually illegal. In addition, at least 3 different customer service reps systematically lied to me about the status of my order. I do not think I was an exception. I think this is the way Baby Universe is choosing to do business.
