Great price upfront, poor coordination with local dealer
by fiftyfour, August 9, 2004
|

|
Bought a 2004 Acura TL with carsdirect 8/04. The initial contact was great and the price quoted was the price paid. Unfortunately the coordination with our local dealer was very poor. The car was not there when we drove an hour to pick it up. The paperwork from the dealer was incomplete in several areas when the car was delivered and had to be sent to us later via Fed Ex. When we encountered problems, the dealer blamed carsdirect and vice versa. Our rep. at carsdirect became ill during this process and her manager was not very helpful. In the end, the car is great and the price was good. It was a headache getting to this point though.

I bought a 2004 Toyota Camry LE V6 with CarsDirect. The customer service rep I worked with answered all of the questions I had and was very patient in stepping through the process. I was nervous about getting to the dealership and having extra fees and miscellaneous BS added into the price. I was also worried that the deposit I put down with the CSR wouldn't show up on the invoice. None of this happened and the price I paid was the price I was quoted with no strings attached. I was very happy with the service of both CarsDirect and the dealership they sent me to.

My Best Car Buying Experience to Date
by raygriff, June 11, 2004

Using CarsDirect is a great way to purchase a vehicle. The process is simple and straightforward. My customer service rep, Carol, was very courteous and professional. She found me the vehicle that I wanted, with the options that I desired in a very timely manner. The price was well under Kelly Blue Book value on a very popular vehicle. Although made available, there was no pressure to purchase additional add-ons, i.e. insurance, extended warranties. Picking up the vehicle from the dealer was a snap - we were in and out in under an hour. I was very pleased with my experience with CarsDirect and will definitely recommend this company to family and friends seeking a better car buying experience.

Incredible experience buying my 2004 VW Passat.
This was the easiest and most satisfying experience from not only Carsdirect, but also with the dealership I picked my car up at- Santa Monica VW. The CarsDirect vehicle specialist had great follow-up and a pleasure to do business with. The price was so good and I kept expecting something to go wrong - but nothing did. I thought that when I got to the dealership to pick the car up that they would try to screw me in some way to make more money - but they didn't. The whole transaction was smooth and I was in and out of the dealership in about 40 minutes. I will always buy cars this way from now on. |

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. No response after reporting a SCAM ad.
by difeeney, April 29, 2004

I was trying to buy a used mini cooper and came accross an ad by a private seller that I suspected was a scam after exchanging emails with the private seller. I used the button on their site to report my concern and heard nothing for two days. I called customer service who told me they had removed the ad the day before. I asked why they did not bother to follow up with me with even a confirmation of receipt of my concern let alone their action. Customer service rep on the phone said they get a large volume of emails. This is bad customer service.

I dreaded buying a new car and having to go through the whole dealership salesman routine: "I'll have to ask my manager about that." "Hey, I'm on your side." "What's $500 dollars more, really?"
Carsdirect.com cut out all that hassle. I got great service, a great price ($1200 below invoice on a popular model) I got the color and options I wanted. I'm very satisfied and won't buy a car again without Carsdirect.com |

Helpful for negotiating leverage at dealerships
by jhayday1, March 12, 2004
|
|||
|
I checked auto pricing on CarsDirect.com against various dealerships in my area, and for various types of vehicles.
In the case of Lexus, the CarsDirect pricing was very competitive, and I probably would have bought from them. However, I changed my mind in cars, and when I went to Acura, I found that I was able to negotiate a substantially lower price ($1,300 lower) than quoted by CarsDirect.com. I was able to get my best pricing by emailing four different dealerships to solicit offers. Once I had the best offer I could get, I negotiated with that dealer. |

I bought my 2003 Toyota Camry through carsdirect.com about one year ago and was very pleased. I love looking at new cars but HATE the buying process because I am not good at haggling. With carsdirect.com, I just walked onto the dealership lot that I chose to use and picked out the car I wanted. I saved about $2,000 on the price of the car. I LOVE my Camry! I'd recommend this to anybody who is in the market for a car but who hates the process of haggling over pricing. When I get ready to trade, I'll be back. A++++

I tried a lot of on-line car sites and CarsDirect was the only one to deliver.
Dont waste your time with the dealer option. I used this first because I thought it would be faster and I could use a local dealer. Their price was $4000 higher then the CarsDirect quote and the vehicle did not have the options I wanted. The dealer contact seemed nice and cooperative but he really wanted me to buy the car they had on the lot. I would highly recommend the CarsDirect buying service. My CarsDirect contact was tireless in her pursuit of the vehicle I wanted with the options I needed. She was very knowledgeable about option packages and what types of vehicles the dealers had on their lots. I did purchase a car from a CarsDirect dealer and the price was $1500 below the invoice price from other sites. |

Terrible New Vehicle buying experience.
by vmb1, December 2, 2003

We completed the on-line form and received the e-mail replies from CarsDirect. We were never contacted by the dealership in over a week and a half. We called the dealership twice and they never returned our calls or made any attempt to fill our order. We ended up purchasing a vehicle locally. While CarsDirect appeared to fill their end of the deal, they seemed unable to prompt their dealership partner to work on our vehicle.

They don't work that hard to find you the car you want
by kellyfj, October 9, 2003

Service was very poor - they never found a car close to what I wanted. I was somewhat picky (wanted a 2003 BMW 330XI in Steel Grey or Steel Blue with Premium Package). The only cars they could find were not in the same color and somehow always seemed to have more options attached like cold weather package or Xenon lights raising the price - so much for a "guaranteed" low price. Each time they called the price went up and more accessories were attached. I said no and stuck to my preferences. Then after a week they called me to say all dealers in my area were sold out but I went on-line and checked local inventory and there were several in the area. They may still work for you but don't believe the guaranteed price. They act very much like car dealers - bait and switch. It might work for you but tread carefully. Use www.edmunds.com to know how much of a deal you are REALLY getting.
