Good prices, but very poor customer service support especially on the returns

This was my first experience with Lightingby Gregory.Com - competitive pricing, large selection and free shipping were attractive and I made a purchase. The shipping was slow - but it was OK for me. The items arrived in good condition. My problems started when I had to return 2 lights back to Thomas lighting. Per company policy - I had to request return authorization as without it the company will not issue any credit. I had to wait 1 month (!) with constant follow-up phonecalls to customer service to get this authorization. The website states that it usually takes 1 week to receive it. After many phonecalls and finally receiving this information, I made sure to follow the instructions from the manufacturer - provide return authorization on the shipping label, include original packaging, lights in the original condition... The reason of my return was only because the lights did not fit - and they were in the original packaging - same box provided by manufacturer. I shipped it by UPS and received confirmation of the receipt by their warehouse - which was within 10 miles from my house! For almost 30 days I had to wait, and every week I kept inquiring about the status of my refund to only receive a very generic e-mail back every time that I had to wait another 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, the returned merchandise was sitting in the warehouse of the manufacturer all this time. I could not get anyone other than the regular customer service rep because no managers seem to be available, and I was told that credit manager responsible for issuing credits works from home. I contacted Thomas Lighting directly - and it seemed to trigger the response from the warehouse. But the generic e-mail from Lighting by Gregory stated that no credit will be issued to me because the warehouse found the lights not in re-saleable condition and will need to either ship it back to me at my expense or they will destroy them. This is absolutely unacceptable for any company - for the items to be sitting around in the warehouse for almost 30 days without inspection and declaration to the customer like this. The only recourse I still had was to go through my credit card company to claim the money. My overall experience is not favorable at all about this company as customer service is a key service they provide to consumers. I recommend dealing with LightingbyGregory only if you know for sure that you will keep the items - so do your research and look at the lights at the local store before making a purchase from them.
