I purchased online a dining table and chairs. The ordering process was easy and Linens and Things sent many e-mails updating me as to the status of my order. My order arrived very quickly.
In my shipment of a table and chairs, three items (two chairs and a table) were damaged. Since you had to assemble the chairs, I was able to combine pieces from the two chairs so I only had to send back one. I contacted Linens and Things and they arranged for UPS to come back and pick up the damaged items, no extra charge. However, the table itself weighed 132 lbs. This is an awfully large box to haul in and out of the house. When I called Customer Service I asked if there was any shipping method that would better insure that the items would not be damaged.
The customer service agent basically told me that since the table was damaged the first time it would most likely be damaged every single time it was sent. I was floored by her answer--how can you be in the business of selling furniture when you do not have reliable shipping methods to make sure the items are not damaged? After speaking to several people, they agreed to upgrade my shipping for no charge on a new table.
Well, the new table came and it was damaged again. Since we really liked the table, I decided to contact the manufacturer directly about sending us replacement parts (something that Linens and Things tells you not to do). They were more than happy to assist me and sent me the parts no charge.
I really like this store for their products, which are great for the prices offered. They also accept their coupons online, something Bed Bath and Beyond does not do. However, sometimes when you have a problem, like we did with the table and chairs, the customer service department can be very erratic--sometimes very helpful, other times giving you the run-around or giving vague answers. Just be cautious and be ready to stand your ground with customer service if you have a problem with your order.
