I have just finished the worst customer service experience that I have ever encountered with any company.
I placed an order on Magazines.com (for 2 magazines) at the beginning of January, 2009. My order went through withotut a hitch, with a message saying that it could take 6-8 weeks to receive my first magazine copies.
Paypal was my method of payment, and the money was deducted instantly. More than 8 weeks later, I still hadn't received anything and became concerned. I emailed Magazines.com and got a letter back confirming my Canadian address. They wanted to make sure they had the right one, so that they could resend it to the magazines.
I confirmed that it was the correct address and another 8 weeks went by. Last night, I emailed them again to find out what was going on. I should have already had several copies of the magazine by now, but instead I had $60 less in my account and nothing to show for it.
I got an email back saying that my order had been cancelled and would be refunded because they DO NOT SHIP TO CANADA!!!
First of all... why would they even allow an order to go through, and chare me for it, if they do not ship to my country? Their website obviously needs something on there that will clarify this to a hopeful consumer.
Second of all, why didn't they catch it? I would have totally understood if I got an email the next day stating that they were refunding me because they cannot fulfill the order.
Third of all, the FIRST TIME I emailed them and they CONFIRMED MY ADDRESS, they obviously should have clued in and told me, saving me another hopeful 8 weeks of waiting.
Magazines.com is a con artist in my eyes, at least if you live in Canada. They take your money fully knowing that you will never get a magazine out of them, and have absolutely awful customer service.
Even though it is not an option for me to shop with them, I wouldn't even if I could.
