I bought 2-25 lb bags of Estes Aquarium Gravel from Pet Food Direct for $26 plus $6 shipping. When I received the gravel after 11 days had passed from the time I placed my order (which is a far greater time than the time they advertise), I found that the gravel was different than what had been advertised. The photo of the gravel, although enlarged, was different than what I had received and the packaging was different. I suspect the manufacturer had changed the specifications of the gravel and used new packaging and the photo had not been updated.
When I contacted PetFood Direct, I was told I could receive a refund, according to their policy, if I was not satisfied. The original shipping fee would not be refunded (fair enough) and the cost of return shipping would be about $25. If you do the math, you will see that the cost of returning the gravel would be more than the original cost of the gravel. I would have to be a fool to return the gravel. They said they understood this but could offer no solution or compromise. Needless to say, I will never again shop with PetFood direct. It appears quite evident that customer service is not a priority with this company.
