Worst ordering experience and awful online service

I've had horrible experiences with Smith and Hawken's web site. Their online inventory is not in real time so many items may be sold out. Furthermore, if just one item on your order is sold out, your entire order goes into a netherworld limbo where nothing is fulfilled.

I placed an order on 8/19/05 and called every two weeks to check on it since the online status is cryptic and vague. Only 6 weeks later and many minutes with customer service on the phone, did I learn that my order was canceled! By that time, every single thing on a my 11-item order had sold out. S & H had made no effort to contact me, nothing.

Alas, in the midst of waiting for the August order, I stupidly placed a second order. This time I checked the web site and saw that the items were still available online 3 days after I placed my order. I called customer service 4 days after placing the order to check the status. Again I found that my order was not being fulfilled since items had sold out.

I must not be the only disappointed customer and I'm sure I'm not the last customer who has given up on ordering from S & H online.
