Shame on Thompson Cigar for shady, crass, unprofessional marketing tactics.

I have been ordering from Thompson for over fifteen years and have always been pleased with them. Lately however, their marketing tactics are becoming overly aggressive and - well, just plain tacky. one of the tactics that they started using about two years ago, is to call you on the phone, seemingly to give you an order confirmation, but then try to upsell you or pressure you into buying more products. The newest tactic though is the worst yet...

Recently I placed a cigar order from Thompson Cigar, as a birthday gift for my father in law. I was shocked at their desperate attempt to squeze another buck out of me with some shady comsumer rewards, partnership marketing program. When you complete an order on the thompson.com website, a full-screen popup window comes up and a woman's voice begins shrieking over your PC speakers, "Claim your award!" SSSCCREEEEEEEEEEH!!!!

It is truly the height of unprofessionalism. I have been placing two to four orders per year from Thompson for over fifteen years. I thought of them as a luxury products company that was above this type of crass, desperate marketing stuff. I was incensed with this blatant, in-your-face, buck-squeezing tactic. I wrote them an email voicing my displeasure with their tactics.

As Internet consumers we should voice our displeasure at this type of evil marketing. When I choose to do business with a company, I want that company to deal with me in a fair and straightforward manner. I don't want to be pushed into a pool of sharks simply because I've demonstrated that I know how to spend money.

I will seek out other online tobacco vendors.
