After using
Walgreens.com for prescription refills for several years, I decided it was time to review my experiences.
The Site
The homepage is a little busy - lots of hot links. It always features some sale items or season-specific merchandise. But, it's not frustrating. You can log in two ways - by the area left of the page or at the top by clicking "log in". Assuming, of course, you've already registered and set up a free account.
Forget your password? Their customer service is good. They will either email it or send it postal.
You can go straight to the pharmacy, check Rx information, review your account, check the health nlibrary, or shop in the "store".
To be honest, I've never purchased anything except prescription meds from the site. I've briefly browsed but the brick and mortar store is so close to me, I prefer to go there and shop. But, if you care to, you can purchase thousands of items on the site including, vitamins, cosmetics, household, hardware, personal care, office, food and snacks, baby items, electronics, etc...
Why, then, do I use
Walgreens.com? Simple - convenience of refills!
My Experience
I LOVE having all my prescriptions listed on my account page with drug name, strength, refills remaining, expiration of the prescription, doctor name, and date of last refill.
By clicking the box, I can order a refill and state the date and time I wish for it to be completed! If my prescription has expired, they will even phone the doctor to see if he will renew it ( message under your prescription reads
" please allow extra time as we need to contact your doctor for authorization")! That's service!
Once I reorder, I get a confirmation email stating when I may pick it up. Also, I registered for phone notification, so a call is made and a message left when the order is ready!
Walgreens also has an "Express Pay" service. You can register your credit card info and pick the prescription up pre-paid.
Additionally, you can set "auto refills", check drug prices, and print prescription histories from the site! You can also fill out a health profile so that any contraindications can be noted.
The only downside is that the store itself is often crowded and busy so there's a wait time to pick up. But, they have a convenient drive-through that is open 24 hours a day in community. Yes, I could have it shipped for an additional charge, but I'm a mile from the store! And, I like to pilfer around in there when I go pick the Rx!
Price-wise, most of my prescriptions are insurance card co-pays, so it doesn't really matter where I get them. For convenience, Walgreens wins hands down with their online re-ordering and pick up procedures! I have noticed that in store prices are about average, but better buys can be found if you have time to run all over town!
I have found the refill speed to be excellent. In several years I have only had two mix ups and one was caused by the insurance company and one by the doctor - none by Walgreens.
They have always been friendly and helpful and even expressed appreciation that I was using the online refill service - it works more smoothly for them.
For easy of use, accuracy, and convenience, I give
Walgreens.com online pharmacy an A+ !
