Sent wrong corkscrew. I ordered a very nice Leverpull model that was rated at 60,000 uses; substituted a Screwpull model rated at 2,000 uses without even asking if I wanted it. Left messages with customer service. Received no call-back from Wine Enthusiast.
What really upsets me is that I printed out my shopping cart and confirmation email. When I got a notice the product was shipped, the substituted model was shown! I've run a web store and KNOW how this type of change is a deliberate action on the part of the merchant, NOT an "honest mistake"!
This attitude by web sellers they can take the customer's money and then arbitrarily substitute a less expensive brand, hoping the trouble to return/exchange the item is too much and they suffer quietly, is not uncommon based on my past experiences. This really destroys my holiday shopping spirit. Maybe that's good for me and local merchants, because I'm so disgusted that I have decided to simply NOT spend the thousands of dollars online I planned on spending this year and shop locally.
By the time I wrap the package, ship it back, and chargeback my credit card, I'm out the return shipping fee. I'm considering keeping it. Add an hour and gas driving to return the item, and it's just not worth it.
I'll NEVER shop at this merchant again. Life's too short to have an online merchant arbitrarily decide "you don't need this; we have something that is a larger profit margin we would like to substitute! If you don't like it, we're so sorry you spent hours of frustration returning the item or keeping it but feeling terrible!"
Hopefully this review will save others the frustration I've experienced!
