When it comes to buying guitar strings on line, I admit that I just go for the best price. For Elixirs, the best price was at Interstate Music, and my buying experience there was A-OK. For Martin SP 80/20 Lights, the best price I could find was at Woodwind and Brasswind, so I thought I'd give them a shot.
As with Interstate Music, Woodwind's website was relatively easy to navigate, and I found several different kinds of Martin strings within a minute or two. Also like Interstate's site, Woodwind's site caters to musicians of all kinds, and I was able to find icons for woodwinds, drums and percussion, and other musical instruments and accessories.
The price on Martin SP 80/20 Lights was only $4.50 or so per set of six strings, so I decided to order five sets. An 800 number was prominently displayed, so for no particular reason, I decided to call and see if I got a human being, rather than order online.
To my pleasant surprise, I got through to a human really quickly, and she was very nice and very helpful. Shipping was only about $5.00 so the total for five sets of strings was well under $30.
Within a few minutes I had my order confirmation, and within a day or so I had conformation that the strings had shipped.
The strings arrived about five days after I ordered them and all was as expected. The boxes were sealed and all were the right brand and gauge. My only disappointment was that the invoice showed only zeroes; I couldn't see what I'd paid for the strings or for shipping on the receipt.
As with Interstate, buying strings from Woodwind and Brasswind was pretty uneventful overall---a good thing. The bonus with Woodwind was the friendly human on the other end of a phone line. Also as with Interstate, there has been no junk email in the weeks following my order.
To conclude, Woodwind and Brasswind came through. Their prices on guitar strings are good, their customer service is friendly, and my strings arrived in a timely fashion.
Recommended.
