I was shopping online for a good quality folding pocket knife. Their prices were the cheapest I could find and given the free shipping, the deal was impossible to beat elsewhere. So I placed my order.
Then I started reading online reviews and started to worry. The next morning, I received an email from the company stating that the item I purchased was out of stock and that they placed a special order for it. This was unacceptable. To take credit card information, then inform the customer that the item was out of stock. I sent an email inquiry, didn't get a reponse, so then I called.
I was only on hold a few minutes, spoke with the customer service representative and told her I didn't want to wait for the item. Instead, I asked if they had a different knife I also wanted. She said she had one in stock and could ship it out the next day. I said okay. The knife was cheaper (just below $49) but she said they'd still ship it for free anyway. The item did indeed ship out the next day by UPS and my credit card was only charged after it was shipped. It was very easy.
So, while I was disappointed that they did not have the original item in stock, they did "take care of me" and replaced it with something else I wanted to buy at an unbeatable price. I would certainly buy from them again. HOWEVER, given the incredible price, I would be flexible in the time frame to expect an item. They came through with something they had in stock. If the item wasn't in stock, for all I know, it could have taken weeks.
