At the time I bought an engagement ring, I was 21 and making about $9 an hour. My girlfriend at the time liked the Zales Diamond engagement ring with the Octillion cut and platinum band. I decided one day to get the ring for her and propose. About a month later, the ring needed to be resized so we took it back to Zales. In about a week we got it back and it fit her fine. After a few months we noticed the band starting to fade so we took it back in to Zales. They cleaned it again and made some excuse it because of wear that the platinum might lose some of its luster. I decided to take the ring for a 2nd opinion to a local respected jeweler in my area. They explained to me the ring was resized with "white gold" and not platinum. Needless to say, I was mad. I went back to the store I got it from but to make a long story short, nothing was done about it. I even showed them the receipt I got from the respected jeweler regarding the band issue, but they would not do anything. i had to pay the respected jeweler to cut out the white gold and put platinum back it, which cost me about $100. A few months later the engagement was broken off and I was given the ring back. I decided to take the ring back to Zales to see what could be done. Because it was after the 30 days, I was stuck with it. I tried to take it around to local jewelers and also ebay. No one was interested because of the cut or they would only offer me between 700 to 1000. So I decided to keep the ring and put it in a safety deposit box. A few years went by and now we are at the present day. I decided to take the ring out of safe keeping and see if I could do some kind of trade with Zales. Keep in mind, they have a policy that you can give them the ring back, but you have to get one that is twice its value. So, I would have to give them this ring and pick one out that cost $6000 and have to pay $3000. Talk about a way to screw over the consumer. Because I no longer lived near the zales i bought it from, I went to an outlet store in Hershey, PA. I explained the situation to her and she decided to look at my paper work. She informed me that any warranties are voided since I have not had it cleaned in a few years. I explained to her it was sitting in the bank not being worn. I wanted to see what they could do for me. She said you probably should take it back to where you got it or call customer service. I stated to her I did about 2 years ago and nothing was done. She tried then to call the regional manager but of coarse they were not there. She took my name and number and said someone would get back to me. I left the store with the ring and have not heard a word since. I guess you can't depend on someone that is only working there 3 weeks! So I went online and emailed my issue to the vice president of zales corp. All I want is to be given some kind of credit for this ring and not have to spend an additional 3000 for another ring.
