Absolutely horrible experience and will never do business with them again.

I searched for a flat screen TV through froogle.com and found ecost.com as the cheapest price.

I purchased the TV through PayPal checkout only to find out a week later they canceled my order. I called back to inquire what had happened and they claimed to have sent me an email requesting more details, which never arrived in my inbox. I stated this fact and asked if they could ask me any questions outstanding and reinstate the order. They stated there were no questions they knew of, but I would have to pay with a credit card on the phone, and the price had gone up 80$ on some items. I told them this was unacceptable and I would like to speak with a manager. They told me one would call me back.

When no manager called me back a few days later I called them again and was transfered to their billing department. Here I was told that they could reinstate the order at the original price, but would need a credit card. I supplied them the requested information and asked if there was anything else necessary to place my order. They stated that nothing else was necessary and my order would be shipped quickly.

In two days I received the following email:
In order to process your order we need a proof of residency sent to us.  We need the front and back copy of your credit card, a copy of your drivers license or passport, and copy of your credit card statement. You may email your documents to awhite@pfsweb.com

1) This email was not even from ecost.com, but from pfsweb.com which looks like phishing to me! When I called they confirmed this was ecost's outsourced provider

2) This is an unacceptable required amount of Personally Identifiable information and I refuse to provide this information and canceled the order

3) My credit score is exceedingly high, I've not missed a payment ever, and I offered to call my bank with ecost on the phone to clear up any issues they have, but again since they outsourced all their phone support they could not do this and would not put me in contact with anyone that could.

In summary: Their bait and switch business practices of raising the price and abhorrent amount of private information makes them the last place I will shop ever again! I have gone with the old trusty amazon.com, where I've never been hassled
