Product Description

Blanche DuBois, a fading Southern belle, arrives to see her sister Stella in New Orleans. An alcoholic, clinging to the Southern tradition, she criticizes Stella for losing the family home to marry the rugged and crude Stanley Kowalski. Blanche lives in her own grieving, half-mad fantasy world; this ires Stanley, who ruins her relationship with another man, rapes her, and further accelerates her descent into madness.

On A Streetcar Going Nowhere

Date of Review:  Mar 23, 2001

Where Taxis Fear to Tread

Date of Review:  Dec 6, 2001
The Bottom Line: This powerful, shadowy play takes an unflinching look at the painful and violent degeneration of a woman and her sanity. Love it or hate it, no one feels lukewarm.
Review: " They told me to take a street-car named Desire." - Blanche DuBois

Brutal, dark, nightmarish, a vision of a world without hope, these are the things critics of A Streetcar Named Desire would have readers and audiences believe about the...

"I don't want realism. I want magic."

Date of Review:  Jan 10, 2003
The Bottom Line: The best play I've ever read, and you can read it within a couple of hours.
Review: Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize winning play tells the story of fading Southern Belle Blanche Dubois and her last attempts for stability and happiness. She's kind of what I imagine Scarlett O'Hara would end up as, penniless and facing middle age...

Williams, Tennessee, Paris Review: "I simply had the vision of a woman in her late youth. She was sitting in a chair all alone by a window with the moonlight streaming in on her desolate face, and she'd been stood up by the man she planned to marry."
