It's neither understatement nor condescension to say that the Source is the Rolling Stone of hip-hop culture. It did for rap what Rolling Stone did for rock & roll; gave it a forum in which to be impartially presented and critically (but fairly) examined by some of the finest music journalists around. Accordingly, the first SOURCE PRESENTS compilation was a wide-ranging cross-section of hip-hop, representing the various, often disparate strains that make up the complex tapestry of the music. THE SOURCE PRESENTS VOL. 2 is very much in the same vein. From Snoop Dogg's stoner self-confidence on "Still a G Thing" to Wyclef Jean's crossover moves on "Gone Till November," this collection peeks into every area of the hip-hop world. From Noreaga to Queen Pen to the late, great 2pac, what you get here amounts to a musical state-of-the-union address. And if these selections are any indication, the union is doing just fine.
