While the virtues of 35mm SLRs have experienced quantum leaps in the three decade absence of a 35mm rangefinder system within economic reach of an amateur, the rangefinder's inherent advantages have never changed. They are light, unobtrusive cameras that are ideal for handheld lowlight conditions. The Bottom Line: The "Spartan" Bessa L is perfect as an inexpensive alternative to a true rangefinder camera--taking the same quality lenses.
Review: With the introduction of the Voigtlander Bessa L, photographers in love with the look and feel of all-manual, rangefinder-like cameras suddenly had a new pet toy. Most importantly, those who had always wanted a new Leica but could not afford one now...
