"One of the most engaging, visceral action games of the year"
Date of Review: Aug 25, 2005
The Gods are well pleased. After playing through this masterpiece, its easy to understand why this game has been hyped up for so long.
Graphics:9/10
This game could look amazing on the Xbox, but an oustanding job has been done on the Playstation 2. The envirments are vivid and colorful, projecting gorgeous visuals. The cinematics are pleasantly gory as well.
Sound:10/10
I believe this is one of the games biggest strenghths. Each soundtrack semessly blends the fighting with the envirements. You'll swear your watching a movie.
Controls:9/10
A visceral combat engine works God of War's combat system. If swinging blades on chains were this easy in real life, we'd be having serious emotional and societal problems. The espicially exiting part is when you have to participate in "timed minigames" to bring down some of your foes. But the Prince of Persia inspired platforming sections of the game were frustrating to complete.
Like many of the Greek Gods, God of War isn't perfect. But it is so far the best PS2 action game to date. Does it have what it takes to be Game of the Year? Only time will tale.
