Top Horton Tunes In One CD
Pros:
Good mix of Horton tunes
Cons:
A few repeats from "Greatest Hits".
The Bottom Line:
It's great music for fans of 1950's era country and/or rockabilly. Horton had an outstanding voice, a lot of energy, and good personality and all that comes through his music.

Author's Review
Johnny Horton has many fans even now more than forty years after his death and this CD, 16 Biggest Hits, has the most popular songs. This collection has everything from his monster, two million seller double gold hit, "Battle of New Orleans" to the poignant ballad "Johnny Reb" and the more upbeat songs that characterized Horton's rockabilly hits like truck driver favorite "I'm Coming Home" as well as "Honky Tonk Man".
The sweet love ballad "Whispering Pines" is one of the top songs on this particular CD.
Songs associated with a couple of movies are on this disc -"North To Alaska" from the John Wayne major motion picture of the same title and "Sink The Bismarck", the theme song for the movie "Sink The Bismarck".
Several songs not as often heard are included - "Sleepy Eyed John", the whimsical and definitely Louisiana song "I've Got A Hole in My Pirogue", and the very 1950's pop sounding "All Grown Up".
The reprise of the old Hank Williams tune "The Mansion You Stole" is not one of the better tracks but overall, the songs on this CD sing with Horton's energy and good vocals.
Fans will find that this is the basic must-have collection with more than the "Greatest Hits" collection (although several songs repeat from that CD) but true, die hard devoted fans wanting more will want some of the other collections although they won't find fault with this.
With a few historical saga sounds, some rockabilly, a bit of pop and some old style country, 16 Biggest Hits-Johnny Horton is a great collection that offers the heart if not the meat of this late singer who might have done so much more if he had not died at an early age.
