Author's Review
I remember in late 2005 a 1Gb memory card would have cost me about $110. Now you can buy a 2gb for under $20 if you look hard enough *coughNeweggcough*. Anyway, I saw this 1Gb PNY memory card at Best Buy for $19, and since I lost my other 1Gb memory card, I went ahead and picked one up.
The Card
This card is a 1Gb Secure Digital (SD) memory card. I like SD because it seems to be the most common memory card and can be found in devices such as digital cameras, PDAs, and can even be used in the Nintendo Wii. Also, SD card utilize a lock feature preventing whatever is stored on the card from being accidentally deleted, provided that the lock is in position.
Using the Card
As far as storing on a 1Gb card goes you can store about 250 songs, 700 photos (depending on megapixel), or 10,000 documents. Cameras that usually use SD cards include popular brands such as Kodak, Canon, and HP.
People have become more aware of digital camera memory cards ever since printer manufacturer's have began placing card slots into many printers. Several of these printers even have LCD screens completely bypassing the computer altogether. Of these printers, I have never seen one that did not offer a slot for an SD card. Many computers now have SD card slots built into them. My HP notebook has slots that accept SD and a few others.
Simply place the card into the SD slot (or USB port with an adapter) and newer versions of Windows detect it and open it up, allowing you to view contents of the card. Adding files to the card is as easy as "copy" and "paste".
For simple point and shoot digital cameras this is a good card to go with. I probably would not recommend this card for those who have SLR cameras. For those cameras, you may want a high-speed memory card for faster results when taking photos. Also remember to format the card before you ever take one picture. If you do not format these memory cards before you use them, your files may become corrupted and unuseable.
Card Life
This card comes with a lifetime warranty, but if you are like me you will lose it eventually. That is why there is a lifetime warranty on this product. In real-life application, it will last about 10,000 insertions into a SD port. PNY is a Toshiba owned company, which is a reputable name in consumer electronics and PCs.
Overall
There is not much to say about these small storage devices, other than storage space. SD is a popular stroage type and PNY is one of the foremost brands that provide it. I recommend this card because it can be found cheap all over the place and has great storage capacity. Be careful that you do not lose it becuase it is quite small (about the size of a square quarter).
