Retro look of a custom street rod. Shear power of a big Corvette V-8.

It turns too many heads. It looks way too cool. They quit making them.

WOW! That just about says it all. I havent had this much fun since I had my 1969 Chevelle SS 396 back in the day. Remember when VW used to advertise "Fahrvergnugen"? It meant the Joy of Driving. The Chevy SSR has given that back to me after all those years. The low rumble of the 390hp V-8 Corvette engine through those factory tuned pipes, the snug leather bucket seats, that sort of hunkered down look of a custom street rod, the awesome Bose 6-disc CD/MP3 player
the list is almost endless. I love this vehicle!
The sticker price on my new holdover 2005 SlingShot Yellow Chevy SSR fully equipped with everything that can possibly be put on it at the factory except the running boards (and those are being installed next week!) was $49,990.00. For various reasons the SSR was not a good seller and is now heavily discounted. I ended up getting mine for a steal of a deal at only $32,500.00!
I dont know, maybe its because its completely worthless for anything other than cruising around and having fun. It only has two very comfortable leather bucket seats. There is enough room for two good sized people. I personally weigh 390 pounds at 5 feet 11 inches, and I can get in and out just fine. If you think of it as a pickup, its really not good for anything a pickup is designed to do. If you think of it as a roadster car, its got a WAY bigger trunk than anything on the road.
What it is, is WAY cool! Heads turn constantly and people tend to weave their cars as they crank their necks around. I took a run through one of the local car dealer lots and as I was leaving I just about caused an accident. Both of the guys in the car that was meeting me on their way in stared so hard the driver lost control and ran their car over a concrete median! They just about hit a new car on the lot besides! Think of the SSR as a custom built street rod right from the factory with a full 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. Not only does it look cool cruising the strip but it gets up and goes when you want it to. In a matter of seconds the top can be retracted and it transforms into a roadster convertible. There is nothing else like it on the road. And, there are so few of them you dont have to see yourself coming around every corner. If you can afford to buy a vehicle for just the joy of driving alone and if you want to turn heads
this is the one for you. Ive even heard of a guy that sold his SSR because he got tired of showing it to everyone!
Im sorry to say that Chevrolet made the last SSR on March 17, 2006 with a total run of only 24,150. GM had hoped to sell a lot more of them but it just didnt go as they had hoped. Maybe too many guys had to ask their wives if they could get one? Maybe buying a gas guzzler to just drive around and waste the entire earths resources on two people was why they didnt sell? Who knows? I dont think Id have paid any $50K for a vehicle but it is darned well worth what I got it for. You could say I am completely tickled pink. All you guys that didnt buy them and caused the production to cease
I thank you! Its going to be an instant collectors car. But, I seriously doubt I ever will sell the SSR. I love it!
