I love technology. And I really love technology that works well. And, I really love technology that both works well and makes my life easier. This phone does that!
I have only had a cell phone for the past few years- No landline at all. But, when we recently moved, I decided to go with a bundled package that included a VoIP phone system. I still use my cell phone quite frequently, and a lot of people call me on it, so I was quite excited to find out that they had devices like this out there that pair your cell phone with your home phone, if, that is, they actually work as advertised. This one does!
Setup couldn't have been easier. You take the base unit out of the box, and plug it in. You can pair it with up to 8 different Bluetooth devices, though at any given time it can only be 'linked' to two of them. This was a PERFECT setup for me, as it allowed both me and my wife to link our phones at the same time, and both receive calls over the home system.
To pair the phone, all you do is put the base unit in a search mode, then set your cell phone up to link with a bluetooth device. After entering the security PIN for the base unit, the phones are synced- It was that simple. Mine was ready to use in about 2 minutes. We put a small shelf with the chargers for our cell phones near the base unit, so when we get home, all we have to do is put our cell phones on the charger, and any time a call comes to them, it rings through our home phone.
Once we set up the phone, the operation became completely automatic- The base unit is always looking for a bluetooth signal from a 'trusted' device, so as we enter and leave the house with our cells, it automatically connects and disconnects them. We don't have to think about it, and don't have to push buttons each time to make it work!
The phones themselves are pretty cool, too. They have color displays (can't live without THAT, can we?), Caller ID, Multiple ring tones (you can set different ring tones for different calls, so you know WHO'S cell phone is ringing!), and a nice digital answering system as well. The range and clarity is superb- The 5.8 GHz system is clear and loud. I have not had any problems with interference from microwaves, or the Wi-Fi system in the house.
The only feature that I wish this phone had was a shared directory between handsets. You can store names and phone numbers in the handsets, but each one has to be programmed individually. There is no central directory, and no way to share the programming from handset to handset.
