Accidently Deleted it, so I am reposting it.
Doom3 was in production for so long people didnt know what to expect when it first came out. There was so much talk about it, you had no idea what to expect from it. Finally though it was released and many people jumped on it and let me tell you what you will get for your money, pure beauty, and absolutely amazing graphics.
First off the¦
Plot: The plot starts as you being a marine landing on the planet of mars sent to check out a missing scientist. Where you run through the beginning of the buildings and finally find him as soon as you do everything goes to hell, in almost a Half-life fashion creatures start to take over the station. As you fight off the monsters from the beyond you are sent orders by the commanding officer on the planet to meet up with another marine team in the facility. That is where the plot takes off and only gets better.
Game play: This game is not lacking in it on any level. Though it is a first person shooter, it has evolved greatly from the old first person shooters of long ago, in graphics, sounds, storyline, just about everything. So from the moment that you start up the game you know that you are in for a great gaming experience for the next 15-25 hours of your life or so. This game has changed a lot since Doom2, it slightly retains the level feel, where you go from point A to point B and solve puzzles in the middle. However now the puzzles now are a lot more complex and the entire game pulls you in a lot more especially with the use of PDAs for use as keycards, also they provide lots of knowledge about what is going on around you, and greatly expand the experience you get out of it. The game play is fairly simple as you just collect PDAs to open doors, get codes for storage closets, or just find out info, while you are traveling through the game you run into lots of monsters that you will have to kill. But I found this game to be a bit slower, at least the first time you play and definitely on harder levels, as if you just run through the level you will end up getting swarmed by monsters. Also this game is very dark, in the sense that there are a lot of dark places, which require the use of the flashlight that is provided. However using the flashlight is often annoying causes you cant really attack with it, and if there is a monster in the dark spot you have to switch back to your regular weapon to attack. However another good thing about all the dark spaces is it makes it scarier. To a game where monsters pop out of just about anything that they can think about fitting in. Along with than and the sound, you are guaranteed to have some heart problems if you dont take a break during the game. But overall the game play is superb very good use of PDAs as keycards and information suppliers, along with how the maps are structured.
Graphics: Even if you dont like the fact that it is a first person shooter, you cant deny it, its amazing graphics. The graphics are just simply eye popping, for the first 10 minutes of the game you can do nothing but just stare at how well everything is rendered; the attention to detail does not fault. Shadows, blood, facial expressions, and creatures details everything put so much time and effort into to make seem perfectly realistic.
- It must be noted though that I highly recommend having a higher end computer, however this game does rely more on the video card, also you should look into turning certain settings off that dont lose the graphic appeal but help your frame rate.
Sounds: This is something people werent even thinking was going to be really a high point of the game but believe me it is. With 5.1 surround sound it just makes the game come alive, of course your housemates will hate you when you have it cranked up. The sounds alone can scare you, crying babies, thundering steps, howling creatures, steady steps of your approaching doom.
:I recommend having a good sound card with good speakers though this isnt really required it just enhance the experience.
Overall: This game is a great example of what can be accomplished with some hard work and good use of technology, granted there is a steep curve for running this game if you can handle it on full graphics or close to you will be rewarded with a very appealing game.
Note: For people that hate having to switch to the flashlight to see in dark spots, there is a mod that allows you to essentially attach your flashlight to every gun so you can see dark spots with out having to pull out the flashlight. However I would rather not have it cause it adds an element of difficulty, and scariness to the game.
Also I suggest playing this game in the dark with the speakers turned up, it is scary believe me.
