Author's Review
The first time watching this movie was on DVD earlier this year and let me tell you, I really and truly enjoy watching this movie. I can watch it over and over and not become bored. That's how much I really like this movie.
Tim Hill is director and I think he has done a very superb job in directing this movie. He has directed this to where not a single person playing their roles did not in any way foul up on their lines. They have performed to perfection and this is what I like.
This movie is a remake of the late 50's, but the only difference is that their most popular 1958 hit "The Witch Doctor" is a disco remix and I like the way they did this. It's more festive and a dance tune.
Jason Lee stars as the late singer David Seville and does his role so well. He's employed with a business firm and comes across these three live chipmunks whose names are Theodore, Simon, and Alvin. Theodore and Simon seem to have their minds put together, but the only one who stands out is Alvin. Because he is more the forgetful and disorganized chipmunk. But they are all so cute that it just makes me want to go pick up each one of them and hug and squeeze them. They remind me of little preschoolers.
David Seville is like a father to all three chipmunks and I find it hilarious to see him go after Alvin; especially, when he messes up on one of his lines as he's trying to sing along with his brothers.
David Cross plays the role of David Seville's business partner and has developed an "interest" in these chipmunks. He wants to "help" these guys get into the music business so that they can make big money and these guys took him up on the offer by leaving David Seville's home and living with Cross. For awhile, everything seem to work out okay, but it was apparent that Lee was simply using the chipmunks to "earn" big bucks for his own advantage and not really caring a thing about them.
There is some action in this movie and things started to kick when the chipmunks wanted out of Cross' life completely. It's hilarious to see them fight off this phony fraud.
This is a movie that is perfect for the whole family to watch because this does not contain profanity or have any sexual scenes whatsoever. It contains action, but it's not to where the characters kill one another. It's nothing, but good clean fun.
This movie is currently available on DVD at most video stores for either rent or for purchasing.
Perfect for watching this on a rainy day or on Christmas. It's nothing, but happiness and cheer.
