Author's Review
If you have read either of the other two epinions on this book then you know that "Angel Fire East" is the third and supposedly final book in the "Knight of the Word" trilogy by Terry Brooks. This set of books deals with good's fight against evil, good being the Word and evil being the Void. Now before you read any further please be aware that this epinion may reveal major details of the book.
"Angel Fire East" is the continuing saga of Nest Freemark and John Ross. In this book, we see a much older and more mature Nest Freemark. She has completed college, been an Olympic runner, been married and divorced and is now sort of the town hero. John Ross is also older and at this point we see that he is tired and, though still willing to fight for the Word, his time as Knight of the Word is about up.
John Ross is visited by the Lady (she is a magical being that directs all the knights of the Word) and told that he must capture the Gypsy Morph. A Gypsy Morph is a being of pure magic that only happens rarely when all forces of magic are just so. This being is neither good nor evil but can be swayed either way. It is said that one Gypsy Morph became penicillin while another became an awful plague. A Gypsy Morph can become anything it chooses and this particular morph becomes a little boy after John Ross captures it. While Ross is trying to communicate with the morph it says only one word, Nest. This inspires Ross to go to Nest Freemark for help. Nest does her best while trying to avoid the demons of the Void, who are also after the morph. In the end, the Word wins out. The Gypsy Morph has chosen Nest Freemark to become his mother.
"Angel Fire East" kept me riveted to my seat. It was one of those books that you just couldn't put down. I was constantly wondering what was going to happen next. I will say, though, that if this is truly the end of this series of books that I am highly disappointed. The ending left me wanting more. There was not truly a finality at the end of this book, so many things were left up in the air. I want to know what becomes of the Gypsy Morph after Nest Freemark gives birth to him. I want to know if he becomes a Knight of the Word or some other great force in the fight of good against evil. To me this could not possibly be the final book. There is so much more that Terry Brooks could write within this series.
Terry Brooks has written several fantasy series of books. The two that come to mind are the Magic Kingdom series and the Shannara series. Magic Kingdom For Sale - Sold and the subsequent books in the series are an absolute must for any Fantasy reader.
I would say that I would recommend "Angel Fire East" to other people. However, it is a must to read "Running With the Demon" and "Knight of the Word" first. The first two books in the series give you vital information on the characters that you will need to know when you get to "Angel Fire East".
