Apple Power Macintosh G4 (M7893LL/A) Mac Desktop

by   gilhero ,   Aug 19, 2007

Pros:  Good looking box. Easy to upgrade. Will take the latest Mac OS X (10.4.10).

Cons:  CD/DVD-RAM drive is read only. CD/DVD slow loading disk. USB is version 1.1.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

After using my Dual 1 GHz g4 with 2 GB ram, I though I would hate using a Dual 500 MHz G4 with 768 MB ram, but I was surprised at how quick it was. The only slowdown I noticed was opening some applications and saving files to the hard drive. I guess this is mostly due to the hard drive its self, a Maxtor 5T060H6. Even the original Airport card was faster then I expected. It took less then 20 minutes to update from OSX 10.4.1 to 10.4.10 and all the other updates it needed. The system had not been booted since Sep. 2005. More than 90% of the system files up replaced, plus all of the Apple applications.
