Brains and beauty in the nano 3rd generation!
Date of Review: Aug 17, 2008
The Bottom Line: Great product for people on the go, athletes, and others who want to have the majority of their music collection w/ them and watch videos.
I recently updated my 1st generation ipod shuffle to the 3rd generation ipod nano...quite an upgrade, I know! I was mainly looking for an mp3 player to use in the car and while I worked out. Previously, I have owned a Creative Nomad and a Samsung Yepp before crossing over to the dark side (as my boyfriend puts it) of apple.
I bought my new ipod at circuit city ($189). I opted to purchase it online and pick it up in the store so I could shop through chaserewards.com and earn an extra 4% cash back. I also purchased a hard case and screen protector from ebay.
I like the small and slim design of the new nano. It has a wider screen and a shorter body. I chose the 8 gig version over the 4 gig because it was only $50 more for double the memory. The 8 gig can hold 2,000 songs or between 3 and 7ish thousand pictures.
My new ipod came loaded with 3 games, vortex, klondike and iQuiz. You can purchase more games from itunes for $4.99. It's similar to playing games on a cell-phone, nothing too exciting there. There's also a stopwatch feature to clock your workouts, a calendar, address book and clock.
The 3rd generation nano supports movies...although it's annoying to watch them on a small screen. Some people may like this though.
There is no manual included with your purchase, although you can see it online. While the ipod is very easy to use, I would have liked to see an overview of all of the features. It does come with cute little apple stickers and those annoying and painful headphones apple makes, also a usb charger.
It displays the album artwork quite nicely (itunes will download it automatically for you!) I like being able to customize the menus.
I also would have liked a screenlock feature since it's easy to accidentally hit buttons.
