Author's Review
My daughter was given the Blue Takes You To School PC game months ago. It was a combo gift for her and my son. My son is only 20 months old so it was certainly not good for him. But my daughter is six years old and can play pretty much any game she puts in the computer, so it was a fine gift for her. This game is age recommended for the age group from 3-6 years old.
Details, how to play and how to install:
Installation is very easy to do. Open the game, put it in your computer and wait. A screen will pop up and ask you to continue installation. You should now click continue. You are given the option to do a full recommended install which puts the game on your C drive with a desk top icon. Or you can choose the custom install, which lets you choose where you want your game to go. I did the recommended installation.
The whole installation process took about three to four minutes time to do. It was not a long wait and the set up was simple. When it is done, just click the finish button and play the game. It is really as easy as that. In fact, at one point I had to sti my sauce so my daughter completed the installation of the game.
As I mention this game is good for kids ages three through six years old. It is a learning game for the most part. Blue takes you to her school house where you can play games and learn. There are alphabet games, reading skill challenged, adding, color and shape sorting and finding and more. So there are quite a few small games with in the game to play.
The games are simple to play. But can be harder for ages three and four I would say. The reading games would be impossible for them, where a five and six year old have most likely begun learning these things in school already. The shape finding is very easy and more geared toward younger kids. You have to find the shape, color the shape, find which shapes match and so on. The game is fun but can become boring since it does not change. Meaning, every time you play, the game plays the same way, and in the same pattern as the previous time that you had played.
There is some music in the game. It does play continuous music unless you use the options menu to shut it off. I did that because my daughter found the music playing in the back to be bothersome to her while she was playing. The graphics are fine. Nothing special really, but clear and vibrant. Blue makes her normal noises and talks at some points. There are also other voices, the voices of children and so fourth.
The game is rather cute. Who doesn't like Blue? The school house that you play in is the same as it is on the show. You see Perry Winkle and other characters from the show as well. But you do not see them very often. Mostly you see them when you enter the class room or during certain games. My daughter liked the alphabet game featuring Periwinkle. That was pretty much the only one that she did take to. But it did not last long to keep her interest.
My four year old nephew has played this game when he has come to visit us. He does like it very much. He is a huge fan of Blue. He had no trouble playing untill he got to the word games. But I am sure it will take time. He has never done preschool. I would say that playing this game has certainly helped him out with shape identification and letter formations. However, I could have taught him that on any free on line game that we have played before. So I would not buy it myself based on that fact. It may be appealing to kids for the first few hours of play. It is appealing to my nephew, but he quits after about 10 minutes each time.
My opinions and recommendation:
My daughter did not take too well to the Blue Takes You To School PC game. She is six and it just did not interest her at all. She plays learning games that are far more advanced then this one. She liked the Blues Clues show. But not this game. I did not like it either. I found that even I got bored watching her play, normally I join in the fun. It just was not challenging enough for a game that is supposed to be meant for her age group. Children roughly age four or five would benefit more from it. But it will still become boring in the long run.
When they made this game I don't think they realized that children get bored with the same old thing. The game repeats the pattern each time you play. You can't save it, there is no way to advance to another level. The game just has no challenge to it. So yes for small kids they can learn from this game. My daughter was way past where this game teaches up to. I am thinking that this would make a pretty good helping hand for a preschooler. Other wise I would not really recommend it.
