Author's Review
I had a Gerber manual pump with my first daughter. While it wasn't top-notch, I felt it was meeting my needs as I rarely ever pumped milk since my daughter wouldn't take a bottle. We just recently had our second child, and I've decided to start donating breastmilk. I knew I would need a better pump than the one I have, simply because while it works fine, I just can't imagine using it regularly. So I started researching pumps. Originally I wanted to get an electric pump, prefferably a double. But after reading positive review after positive review on the Avent Isis, I decided to go for it. It was easy to find since I've seen it at almost every big store in town, and it was under $50. Actually, my cheaper Gerber pump wasn't much less.
I was very please with the Avent Isis from the moment I took it out of the box. It came with extra parts, a great instruction book, and even some bonus nursing pads. The pump was very easy to assemble and I was so glad to see how easy it was to take apart and clean. Unlike my previous pump, the Avent Isis can be COMPLETELY disassembled, which makes it an overall cleaner, more sterile pump since there aren't places milk can get "trapped" and fester bacteria.
The pump is about as easy to use as one can get! It doesn't cause any pain when used correctly, and it generally only takes a few pumps to get milk to start flowing. The pump handle is very comfortable (my last was NOT!) and it's usualy very easy to fix the problem if the pump looses suction at all (my solution is almost always as simple as just drying off some of the parts and reassembling them).
The only thing that would have been nice, for me personally, was to have the pump come with a larger bottle instead of 2 small (4 oz) ones. It's not a huge issue, but since I'm pumping larger amounts and generally go through at least one bottle per session, it would have been convenient. However I realize that most mom's using this pump don't have the same needs as myself. Overall I'm very pleaes with the Avent Isis!
