Author's Review
One of the best sports cars I have ever owned is my BMW Z4 2.5i, 6 cylinder, automatic, convertible roadster. There are many reasons why I decided to buy the BMW Z4 and some of those reasons were the upgraded options such as heated seats, push button convertible top and especially the way it drives. I have had this car for 8 months and I have never had any problems arise. It handles really well in the rain and in sand if you own this car near a beach you will definitely be taking it there. These roadsters were made for the various weather climates, and now that I live in a place that there is snow I still do not know how it handles in the snow. I have driven it on wet roads and it handles beautifully. Its tires have really good traction and maneuverability on many different road surfaces. The things that stand out the most are the MPG, safety ratings, dependability, maintenance, availability of parts, but I still have some minor concerns.
Miles Per Gallon
This BMW has the best fuel mileage out of any car that I have owned. The Z4 2.5i BMW gets 18 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway. The annual cost estimated $2,464.00 to be spent on gas. When I fill up for gas even at $3.14 per gallon it only takes about $35.00 far less than almost every SUV. Compared to some people that is half or even a fraction of the cost that they are spending filling up their vehicles. I do drive it mostly on the highway back and forth from school at the present time. But I do remember when my husband and I drove it from Orlando, Florida to Charleston, South Carolina and we only had to fill the tank three times the whole trip. I think that is something to consider when you are about to purchase a car these days with the cost of gas increasing.
Safety Ratings
There are some people that have concerns with the safety in this vehicle. BMW has high standards in safety for not only the Z4, but all of their vehicles. There are four airbags in this car alone, each door for side impacts, the steering wheel and one on the passage side of the dashboard. It also has reinforced steel wrapping around the car so that if an accident were to occur you would have a better chance of not getting hurt. Overall this car has average to best when compared to other sports cars. I have never been in an accident with this car, so I can not relate on a personal level. I do like that there are roll bars in case I was to ever fly off the side of the road and roll down a hill. When it comes to safety it does not lack in this little roadster.
Dependability
I did not mention before that this is my third BMW. One of the main reasons I really enjoy my car is that there has never been a morning that it did not start nor had any kind of major problems. Reliability is important to me especially with the increasing prices for vehicles. BMW has a high standard of quality for every car they put out on the market. That is why they have such an amazing service department. When and if I have ever had a problem, like my top not going down, all I had to do was call and they told me to bring the car right in and within half and hour it was fixed and I was back out the door. That is what makes BMW stand out from other manufactures.
Maintenance
The maintenance programs that BMW has on all of the cars are something to talk about also! When you purchase a BMW the oil changes and all of the maintenance service work that you have to have done in the first 50,000 miles is covered free of charge. If you have any warranty issues bring your car in and they will give you a loner until your car is finished. Having the free maintenance off sets the cost of your payments when they do the work with no additional cost. Even after the 50,000 miles are up and you take your car in for service they charge the same amount as any other vehicle service work. That is something to take into consideration when car shopping.
Availability
If and when your BMW should ever go into the shop, they usually have the parts in stock. By chance they do not have what you need it takes about 24 hours to order and have that part. In the mean time if you car can not be driven you get a loner car and they will come and pick up your car. The service crew is always friendly and helps you with any problem you ever have. That is something that is important also when looking at cars. If you are a busy person and you do not have time to waste waiting on parts and service to be done BMW will always have you in and out in record time.
Some Concerns
There are a couple of things that I have notice that I really do not care for. One thing is that it does not have a spare tire, because the Z4 has run flat tires. So if you have a flat you have to buy another tire and that can be very costly. Another concern I have is I live where there are not any BMW Service Centers close to me, so if I should need anything done there is a two hour drive, if not longer. Even though BMWs are expensive they make up for it with the service they provide. This is my third one and I do not think I will drive any other luxury car.
Overall I have always had great pride and satisfaction driving and owning BMWs. I know that the quality of work put into these cars has made their reputation stand out among the other car manufactures. Even though shelling out thousands more for a car you get the comfort in knowing that your car is one of the most safe and reliable cars on the road. With the less gas you will need to but into your Z4 and the knowledge that it will be reliable and safe there really are not many things that could hinder you from buying one. BMW will make sure you are 100% satisfied that you are driving one of their vehicles.
