Author's Review
I love devices that simplify my life. This does just that.
While the commercials do say that this device cooks a sandwich in 4 minutes, I find that it's really closer to 8. It is almost as easy to clean as the commercials say. I have also noticed that every few days, I have to carry the device to the sink and wash out the metal heating tray (it doesn't come out) because ickiness from the breakfast sausage will drip into it. This only takes a few minutes. It comes right off.
The machine itself is very easy to operate. There is a toaster component and a "poaching" component. There are four buttons on the side: One for just toasting, one for just "poaching" one for toasting & poaching (which times itself so the egg & sausage finish cooking at the same time the muffin stops toasting), and a cancel button.
The poaching component is basically a five tray system. There is a metal tray underneath that heats up. This is where you put the water. A plastic egg holder sits on top of this. You can put up to four eggs into it to hard boil, or you can place the "mini-skillet" in it (which contains the egg or egg substitute). On top of this is another plastic tray that you set the sausage, ham, or other product on. This cooks above the egg, so beware the juices will drip onto the egg & whatever is below. The commercials say that they only recommend using precooked meats. I would probably stick to that. The last part is the lid. It has a small hole in the top where the steam rises out of. Beware of putting your hand over this hole, it is hot.
I'm also a very healthy eater. I don't get any more Egg McMuffins, which really vexes me, because they used to be my favorite things in the world.
However, the Egg & Muffin Toaster is a healthy & quick alternative. I literally make an Egg & Muffin Sandwich every morning.
Here's my Alternative Egg & Muffin Sandwich Recipe:
Light English Muffin: 90 Calories
MorningStar Breakfast Sausage (Meatless Product): 80 Calories, 3G Fat
Fat Free Cheese: 35 Calories
Eat Beaters: 45 Calories
My sandwich has 250 calories and 3g of fat. A typical breakfast sandwich made with traditional products is about 600 calories and 30g of fat. It tastes just as good but is much easier on your digestive system. And it's far more healthy.
