Cute children are easier to put up with when they are "bad"

As a day care provider to 2 young boys, I do not believe in allowing the tv to babysit for me. I am quite picky about what the kids watch and this Barney Video "Let's Play School" has turned me against everything "Barney". I have hundreds of childrens' video titles and this one belongs more in the trash than in the vcr.

This video's subject is "school" and it casts a not-so-real cast of horrible acting children as kids who feel sorry for Baby Bop for being to "little" to go to real school, so they join Baby Bop's imaginary school and show her just how much FUN it is.

This video is an inacurate portrait of what school is. School is a place to learn and where learning should be fun, I think it makes children think that all school is about is singing and eating macaroni and cheese. My charges are bored with the movie after 5 minutes.

I think we need to spend more one on one time with kids. These videos are fine if they are going to get something out of them. Even at a young age a little intellectual stimulation is a good thing. Colors and dumb songs are good to catch a small child's attention, but once you have that attention, why not actually put something useful into that forming little mind!

I could go on for days about the future of this country if the only role model our littles have is a Big Purple Dino. And a Barney might not be so bad if he taught them things they could use.
