Author's Review
I am a wine and brandy drinker, and normally wouldn't even be interested in a martini, however, my husband has a thing for vodka martinis on Friday night with about four gourmet olives, so on a recent trip to the liquor store he was contemplating his purchase. He went back and forth, looking at prices, and trying to make a decision. My feeling about spirits, is "if you are going to drink, buy the good stuff". This bottle of Belvedere Vodka went in and out of the cart a couple of times, and finally I said, just get it!
To me most vodka is almost undrinkable, but this was definitely worth the price of $28.99 for a 750ml bottle. It had a very smooth taste, and I didn't feel like I was drinking perfume. My husband said it was the best he ever had, and would buy it again in a heartbeat.
I do like a Cosmopolitan Martini, which is made with 3 parts Vodka, 1 part Triple Sec, a tiny splash of cranberry juice, and a slice of lime run around the rim of the glass. The first time I had one of these, the bartender told me that you stir the mixture "just" 16 times, and it goes in a standard martini glass. That evening I made one of those for me, with the expensive Vodka, and it did make a great difference in the taste. However, since this Vodka is so good, you must not forget to sip it!
The Belvedere brand is one of several "luxury" vodkas, and is produced in Poland. The bottle says it is created in "the same tradition for over 500 years", and I would add, they are doing something right.
Next time, there will not be the lingering over this more expensive purchase!
