Manual for Change?

Pros:  use of parable simplicity, easy to quote

Cons:  dances around hard questions. Misinterpretes tribal history

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

Daniel Quinn had intended this book as a "Manual of change" for those who have been inspired/outraged/changed by his other books (e.g. ishmael) But in this book of one page essays, He merely provokes thought. Before this book I never had any clue what homelessness had to do with environmental problems, and Quinn raises some interesting ideas. But the premise of this I reccommend this book---with reservation. First, readers should have read ISHMAEL, MY ISHMAEL, the STORY OF B, before reading this book. Secondly, readers should be prepared to accept Quinn's newest ideas with a grain of salt. Thousands of letters to quinn following ISHMAEL and the others backed Quinn into a corner. This book is Quinn's attempt to answer the very hard criticism of the argument he lays out in his other novels. Thats not an easy task, and when one tries to answer questions that difficult, logical flaws appear. Quinn puts forth a model of social change based on capitilism...with a twist. That's a scary idea.
