Author's Review
Bissellhas been a source of effective floor cleaning appliances for many years, most noteworthy of those products were their vacuum cleaners, though the last ten years they have been a forerunner of many floor and carpet cleaning products that are worth a second look; such is the Bissell SpotBot.
Interestingly enough, the SpotBot answers the complaint of too few hands and too little time simply asking you turn it on and walk away! Okay, we are steeped in the utilization of robotics technologies and it is simply about time it was incorporated into the home! The Bissell SpotBot is a small machine weighing less than ten pounds and easily carried about that handles itself admirably against a host of stains.
A Closer Look
Fresh out of the box the SpotBot is ready for action complete with Little Green cleaning formula and 16 oz. of OxyGen2, a oxygenated cleaner, which is an extraordinarily effective cleaning agent capable of tackling the most difficult of pet and wine stains.
Two clear tanks, one for cleaning solution, the other for dirty collection take the guesswork out of the process. A five foot hose with triggered brush hand tool adds the possibility of tackling the stain manually, which comes in handy for smaller or tougher stains. The hose is easily wrapped around the body of the SpotBot clipping into a side port. You cannot operate the machine in both manual and automatic modes, if the hose isnt clipped into place in that port. The wand, which can be stored onto the body of the machine for safekeeping has a clear window which is handy for determining if you are still pulling in dirt simply by gauging the color of the extracted fluid. The 16 power cord comes in handy cutting the need to pull out an extension especially in emergency spills and winds back into the cord wrap on the body. The Hands Free Cleaning window encloses the brush and restricts foam or cleaner to spread beyond the reach of the extractor leaving a clean work space once the cleaning cycle has completed.
With Bissells patented Smart System there are 3 cleaning cycles: Surface Stain, Set-In Stain or Manual Hose. The cycles incorporate a Spray, Brush, Suction, and Finish cycle noted with a led status indicator. You can Pause or Stop the machine at anytime to replenish or empty fluids or simply to exit the cleaning process.
The Cleaning tank has fill indicators for common stains like pet, grime, and oily stains or you can opt to fill for dye based stains like wine, coffee, fruit juices etc.
Trial Under Fire
The Bissell SpotBot cannot get any easier to use. Locate the brush of the Bissell over your spot, select Surface or Set-in stain and start the cycle. I have not seen the unit go past 6 minutes for any of the two cycles. It is a thing of beauty to see it work away at a stain while you go about your business. I must admit that I was skeptical at first but seeing is believing after the SpotBot evaporated a stubborn traffic stain on a hallway carpet to the point that it made us have the carpet professionally cleaned to matched the work of the Bissell SpotBot; this machine is good, no, this machine is great! We had the original Green machine and loved it to its grave recently, and I have to say, the SpotBot is a capable replacement! Occasionally you will find that going into manual mode afterwards is helpful in extracting additional moisture. Some pet stains will wick to the top requiring additional applications. You also need to be careful with any oxygenated cleaners as they can bleach out your carpeting, so read them labels!
Most spots are easily taken up but obviously you need to exercise a little judgment by blotting or vacuuming your stain beforehand. Be it oil, lipstick, pet stains, grease, mud or simple traffic wear, the Bissell SpotBot is a sure bet to handle the job while you freshen up your Margarita!
