A God-thing for Peculiar Treasures.

Robin Jones Gunn brings to life the lovable Christy Miller in twelve must read books that take Christy from the age of fourteen to nineteen years of age. Gunn has a unique insight into the minds of Christian teenagers. Most authors who write series like this annoy me. I've been a voracious reader from the time I was old enough to hold a book and I have read millions of books in my twenty years -- and if you ask my family, that is not an exaggeration.

The Christy Miller Series is a great book for any teenage girl, especially those who wish those Wakefeld twins from Sweet Valley would get a clue. Christy Miller is a believable character with many faults but a lot to love as well. You'll fall in love with her as well as her friends Katie, Doug, Tracey and Todd.

Although this series is a Christian series, this is not the sappy type of Christian books. Christy and her friends live real lives. While they don't experience horrible tragedies (although a few of those happen too) they basically face the lives of normal kids their age. They deal a lot with dating. Gunn created two of the best guy characters I have ever read when she created Todd and Doug. (Then there's Rick, the guy who is so real you'll want to slap him.) The relationships between Christy, Todd, Doug, Tracey and Katie are wonderful, showing that even Christians don't always like or want to be with each other.

After reading this entire series, which ends with one of the best written passages I have ever read, don't despair, the journey is not over. Gunn does a brilliant thing. In the final book, she introduces Sierra Jensen to the Christy crowd; then she gives Sierra her own series that keeps you up-to-date on your favorite characters, even taking you to a wedding -- but I won't say whose!

During and after your trip in to Christy Miller's world, you will find yourself contemplating your relationship with God -- are you a Christy, Tracey, Katie, Doug or Todd? You'll find yourself wishing for friends like these or thanking God you have them. You'll start saying things like 'God-thing' and 'peculiar treasures'. You'll join hundreds of other girls waiting for your Todd or Doug. And, the Bible verse in Numbers (The Lord bless you and keep you...) will have special meaning.
