Author's Review
I came across this book through my sister in law. Last year she was staying with me and had joined some random book club. This book was one of the books that she recieved. By looking at the cover of this book I didn't know what to expect from it. The cover of the book is a light brown color which reminds me of like a paper grocery bag. It is a paperback book and about 8 x 10 inches in size. The title of the book is "stamped" on the front of the book. The back of the book is the same color with the same stamping. There is a small paragragh that lets you know a little bit about the book.
Taken from the back of The Secret Lives of Men and Women: A PostSecret Book:
Postsecret.com founder Frank Warren is back with irresistible PostSecret series. The Secret Lives of Men and Women, Warren has selected a never-before-seen collection of postcards bearing the explosive confessions and captivatimg reveleations of men and women everywhere. Created using photographs, collages, illustrations and more, the handmade cards pffer a compelling dialouge on some of todays most provocative topics-from marriage and infidelity, to parenting, office politics, repressed fantasies and even abortion- daring us to consider how well we really know each our friends, family, even ourselves.
This sums up The Secret Lives very well. This book takes a dramatic look at peoples most hidden inner secret. Not knowing any other books compiled or written by Frank Warren, I would now be inclinded to go and find more of his books. I can't believe some of the things that are written in the book. This is shocking stuff. Some of the anonymous post cards will make you smile, and others will totally break your heart. It really does make you wonder how well you know anyone.
Just a few postcards from the book:
I knew I was gay on our wedding day but wanted kids and feared aids.
When I was young I used to hate my body....
Now that I'm older, I know better. I'm HOT!
Each postcard in the book is original, most are colorful or at the least interesting visually. I have reread this book a few times since the first time I read it, and each time its like picking up a different book. I don't know, I think it may have something to do with your own soul, that attracts you to different statements in your book at different points in your life. Each postcard in the book is placed in a perfect random order, and the book is enjoyable to look through from beginning to end, but its just as nice to pick up and read a few random postcards at a time.
I highly recommend this book for it's eye opening statements. It would make for a great coffee table book and conversation starter. It will really get your mind thinking...what secret do you hide?
