An Amazing Read

The book gets off to a slow start, but it's worth it to keep going! I read this for a school project, and I normally dislike the books chosen. This one blew me away. Greg Mortenson's story is a lasting message of peace in an area that many people do not associate with peace.
He shows a unique view of the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan that most of the U.S. has never even heard of.

A former mountain climber, Mortenson is struck by the generosity of these people and decides to help them by building schools in poor areas. He has many struggles, but the book has a generally positive feel to it. Everything in the story is real, which makes some parts unbelievable. The characters names have only been changed to protect some of them.

The descriptions of the beautiful Pakistan scenery are breathtaking and make you want to check Google to see if they're real. In light of the recent death of famous climber Sir Hillary, this book is especially meaningful for those who enjoy the outdoors or the legacy Hillary left in Tibet. I recommend this to anyone who has any interest in positive social change, or looking for a great read!
