C. S. Lewis, mainly recognized for his Christian apologetics and the children's series "The Chronicles of Narnia," brings a new telling to an old myth in his work "Till We Have Faces." Although some who are familiar with the works of Lewis may be somewhat put off by the apparent lack of Christian moral, those who are seeking truth rather than a religious cliche will find a goldmine.
The story of Orual and Psyche highlights the journey of a woman who is searching for meaning, for love, and for truth. Her journey leads her through egocentrism and, finally, to the point of self-realization and humility.
This novel is a must-have for fans of George MacDonald (McDonald?) and J. R. R. Tolkien. Lewis' use of language and aesthetics is skillful and inspires pathos in the reader. This is a life-changing work. Read it once, at least. If you have time, read it twice.
