Clancy without the time commitment.

Transfer Of Power is a great book, from the introduction of super spy Mitch Rapp in the opening chapters to the predictable yet fulfilling ending. This is Vince Flynn's second novel and his first with the character Mitch Rapp, a black ops CIA assassin. His job is basically to kill terrorists and bring the fight to them. He is a typical super agent in the fact that he is multilingual, can kill in seconds and is in terrific shape. Mitch is a hard nosed agent who deep down loves his country but also feels that he wants out and wants a chance to enjoy life. Anyone who enjoys a good old fashion spy novel and present day terrorism plots will enjoy this book.

So why the title of my review?

Flynn writes a very good and concise book with out explaining every piece of artillery or ship. Clancy is a great writer but you have to admit he sometimes gets a little over zealous with the details. You can sometimes skip 15 pages and not miss a beat in some of his books. My mother who is a huge Clancy fan has embraced Vince's books and has now read all but his latest effort, Memorial Day, his second best effort.

I am not one to divulge many plot points but the basic story here is that the White House is taken over by terrorists. The President is locked in a bunker and the rest of the staff including the new reporter Anna Reily, who becomes an important character over the course of Flynn’s novels, is being held at gunpoint. It is up to Mitch and his guide an older gentleman who knows the grounds and secret passageways in the White House to save the President the hostages and the White House itself.

This is a great read that will go very fast. If you read this book you will end up reading the rest of Flynn's novels. You will embrace Mitch's personality and get fired up when he is in meetings with the most important people in the country. As his character develops over the course of The Third Option, Separation of Power, Executive Power and Memorial Day. Some of these books are flawed but they are still well worth the read. Have fun and enjoy this author who just really does not get enough credit.

This would be a great movie!
