World War Z: Fantasy That Feels Like Reality

I purchased this book only after getting the abridged audio book as a gift. I am not a fan of abridged anything and I also wanted to read the book for myself before hearing an audio version. I'll admit I didn't have any great expectations when it came to this book, all I expected was a good read. To my surprise the story was amazing. Instead of simply telling what happened during a worldwide battle with the living dead Max Brook takes you to the front lines of an imaginary war.

The novel begins with the author telling about World War Z and the purpose of the book. It then goes on to tell the experiences of various survivors in an interview format. The book starts out with the initial living dead outbreaks, goes onto the governments reaction, and then covers the great panic as the reality of the situation becomes obvious. The characters interviewed come from all over the planet and all walks of life. This story shows how the Zombie War affects celebrities, white collar workers, students, children, the military, and more.

Instead of letting the reader fill in the blanks the story does a good job of explaining the unexplainable. For those things that simply can not be explained by real or imagined science the characters address how unexplainable the phenomenon is. Various military battles are described with surprising attention to modern warfare techniques, weapons, and the overall affects of these modern weapons.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys horror, fantasy, military, or science fiction books. Saying that World War is a page turner would be an understatement. I must warn that the contents of this book contain graphic description of violence and human survival methods so I would not recommend this book to younger or sensitive readers.
