Best Dishwasher I've Ever Owned
Date of Review: Dec 13, 2007
The Bottom Line: You can't find a better dishwasher.
In 40 years of marriage and moving I've had a lot of dishwashers and my husband has always complained they're too noisy. When the Whirlpool which came with the house died I debated between Bosch and Maytag because I hated the small capacity Whirlpool. I chose the cheaper Maytag. HUGE MISTAKE!!! I put up with it for 4 years only because my husband found the noise level satisfactory and he put in a water softener hoping the dishwasher would do a better cleaning job. It didn't.
I chose this model because my husband wanted a quick-wash cycle, I like to see the controls and cycle information, and it has a flexible utensil basket.
This machine has incredible capacity. Oh, all brands tell you they hold 12 place settings but they lie. With the Bosch we run out of dishes, pots and pans before we run out of space. Flexible tines, upper rack, and silverware basket aid here but after 6 months my husband is still trying to figure out how a dishwasher that fit easily into the space occupied by 2 predecessors holds so much more than they did.
For extra tall items that won't fit under the top rack, remove the rack and insert the Extra Tall Item Sprinkler in the top rack spray outlet as shown in the instruction manual. I can't tell you more than this as we have no need for this feature.
There's no child-proof lock on this model but the magnetic latch is so strong I can't imagine a toddler being able to open the door. Bosch calls it a Child Safety Latch.
Other features include 24-hour delay start, top rack only wash, Extra Dry Heat, and Bosch Optidry. Optidry is a sensor that adjusts the cycle according to the moisture remaining. The other features we haven't used.
We also haven't used the Quick Wash Cycle my husband insisted on as an economy measure because the regular cycle is so efficient it is as short as the Short Wash cycle on other brands plus it sanitizes the dishes.
Buyers of older Bosch models complained the dishes were wet at the end of the cycle. That is no longer the case.
How quiet is it? My husband, the grump, has to put his ear to the door to see if it's running. He doesn't believe the display.
