I purchased this range in January 08 and noticed a few times that the burner flame (natural gas) became unstable or went out when the oven (elec) was turned on. I called the dealer and they came and removed the rangetop and installed aluminum tape to the burner mounts and the problem went away.
This is a potentially dangerous situation as once 2 burners went out and the smell of gas permeated the house. Also I found that when the oven was started at a medium burner flame setting the flame became orange and smelled of combustion byproducts.
When the service person had the range apart I noticed on the burner mount pan that there were 2 diagonally opposed screws holding in the burner mounts, but there were 4 holes in the mating pieces, 2 void of screws. The corners at the empty screw holes were turned up allowing oven fan air to pass into the base of the burner pan creating the problem.
It might be prudent to issue a recall or bulletin stating how to fix the problem as it allows for a potentially dangerous situation and had I known about it prior to the installation I could have saved valuable time fixing the problem beforehand.
Is aluminum tape really a good fix on a range for which I paid $2400? It is close to both the burners and the oven and is only held in place by some type (temp rating?) of pressure sensitive adhesive. I suspect that if there were the proper amount of screws installed there would have been no problem.
In addition, the oven fan is extremely noisy. The oven does not have to be in convection mode for the noisy fan to run—it comes on immediately in bake mode. Recently we noticed that the noise is so loud we can’t hear each other talk in the next room.
I called the dealer and again they sent a repair guy to our house. He diagnosed it as the cooling fan, which he didn’t have with him, and left. Stand by for the outcome of this issue.
We're not happy with this range and even asked the dealer if we could trade it in, but we can't. We called Bosch customer support but they basically said "too bad."
