Author's Review
I purchased TWO different electric kettles and the Bodum performed well in quickly heating, but every time the lid is opened, water that has condensed on the inside of the lid drips on the countertop - a BIG problem in an office setting and a nuisance at best. The Breville electric kettle performs as well, but it's lid design eliminates the dripping problem. Go with the Breville for that reason alone.
The Breville lights up the entire handle when brewing and when ready, the light goes out, accompanied by a loud click. You have GREAT visible and audible indicators that your water is ready. By contrast, the Bodum's small red "ON" lamp is lit only when the unit is brewing and goes out when ready, but it is visible only by looking directly down on it.
If looks are important, the Bodum is black plastic and feels cheaply constructed compared to the stainless body and black handle of the Breville. Bodum looks like a tool, while the Breville is an attractive addition.
Lastly - the plug-in bases are different as well. Bodum's has a balky, multi-pin, edge connector that is easy to mis-align. The Breville has a single, centered, 1-Pin drop-in configuration that is a no-brainer.
These designs are night and day different, with the Breville ahead on all counts.
