great camera, but not the best?

because of all the hype behind this camera, i decided to borrow my friend's for a week see just how 'great' this camera really is. at first glance, i found the body to be a little on the ugly side. i know you probably shouldn't judge a camera on its looks, but that stood out like a sore thumb. second, it's a little on the heavy side, but that's to be expected of a professional-level camera (and no, the 10d is NOT professional!!). first, i shot in the studio. my set up consists of dyna-lite packs and heads. the 1ds captured some incredible looking images!!!! not complaints thus far. next, i took it to a concert held at a large venue. now this is a downfall with any digital camera, they simply cannot take great concert shots. i've been shooting concerts for 10 years and i'll stick to my f5 for that stuff. still nice, sharp images however. i did some natural light headshots and some product shots......all great!! now this is where it gets interesting. i compared all of those images with similiar images i had taken with my trusty d1x. the d1x images looked a lot better!!! not only on screen, but also as frontier prints, light jet prints and wide format inkjet prints. overall grain, tone and sharpness is much better with the d1x. while the 1ds is an incredible camera on its own, is it worth the extra money? no. not only does the d1x out-perform the 1ds, but nikon lenses have proven to be a lot better than canon.
