Pros:
Great light metering, good battery life, easy display menu, fast start-up time. Very lite.
Cons:
Dim display in daylight, needs 30 fps on video mode. Needs independent zoom controls.

For a new user, a great starter. Simple, good quality shots with enough creative control to make it interesting. If you want large, high grade prints, move up.

I've been tossing around the idea of a point and shoot digital for a while. It's hard for me, I'm an old school purist film photographer. I was at a local retail store the other day and they had a clearance table set up with stacks of cameras they were marking down. The dusty stuff had to go to make room for the new lines. There was a Canon A410 in the pile that caught my eye as I had run across a couple of reviews while researching digitals. The sales person popped it out of the box and ran over the controls a bit. Simple enough for anyone with some camera experience and a few features that take a little learning curve. I was impressed with the camera for the money, but told the sales person no thanks, maybe another time. Then they offered another 20% off the marked down price. Well, what can I say. It now has a place in my camera bag next to my A1 and the old EF. My daughter has taken about 50 shots with it so far and even taken the time to explain all the features to me. From the basic point and shoot to a little bit of creative color swapping this camera is more than capable of taking good quality pics. It's loaded with features that make photography fun and educational. I use the memory card to download to my system and she uses the USB cable to download to hers. For everyday, "gosh I wish I had a camera," shots, this is the one to carry. The enclosed ZOOM software does a decent job of tracking and organizing your images on your computer also. So, for what the camera ended up costing after the mark down and discounting, $103.00 including taxes, I added a 256 memory card, a set of 4 rechargable batteries with charger, and a nice camera case for less than what original price tag was. Who wouldn't grab that deal?
