The Chevy Aveo ROCKS!
Pros:
Great gas mileage, zippy little car, roomy interior, nicely appointed
Cons:
Very small to take on an SUV - you will lose
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this car to anyone who likes great gas mileage, a skippy look and doesn't have anything to put in the back seat (for safety)

I was given my 2006 Chevy Aveo for our wedding anniversary by my husband. He is well aware that I prefer compact (or subcompact) to anything larger, but we do have kids, so rear room was important. Also, when shopping in this market of small cars he did want me to have all the bells and whistles....no small feat for a loss leader like the Aveo.
We managed to purchase a 2006 Chevy Aveo LS [automatic] with power windows, doors,mirrors, remote keyless, SUNROOF! woohoo, upgrade interior, paint, CD/MP3 player w/six speaker surround sound, upgrade rims....suffice it to say if Chevy offered it, then this car had it!
I agree with the other owner in that everyone thinks they need 400+ hp - no so - This is a light car and as such it has impeccable pick up and zip - we live in one of the most congested areas of the country and I have never had a problem keeping up with merging or attaining the speed limit quickly. Funniest thing is - even if I don't "hit the gas" hard moving away from a stoplight, the Aveo still mananges to obtain speed way before the behemouth SUVs that are so popular in this area. Although "Skippy" which is what we named her, hence my name - was an automatic, I think the 5 spd manual would have been a heck of a lot of fun to drive.
I averaged 32-37 miles per/gal in her and laughed at each of my once weekly forays to the gas station - I laughed at the aforementioned SUV owners who were visiting for the 3rd time that week - I LOVE the mpg.
We have tall kids, who are still growing - still with me in the front seat, driving (I am 5'8) my 5'10 son fits just fine behind me. There is only one cup holder in the back, so the kids do fight about that.
I would still be driving my little beauty had a drunk driver [behind the wheel of an Armada] not hit her and totalled her...thankfully the car was parked and we were not in it, but once I saw the damage that an SUV can do to the rear of an Aveo we did make the decision to move up a size at Chevy.
The Aveo is the highest rated subcompact for side impact crashes (which we did research safety ratings b/f purchase) but in this land of entitled drivers and HUGE SUVs I didn't feel safe putting the kids in the back seat again.
Sigh...I miss my Skippy.
