Author's Review
First off, I want to start this review by saying, I have always been a truck fanatic and had never driven a car before my PT Cruiser came along. Now, as most of you know gas prices started on an uphill climb just about one year ago, at that point I convinced my husband we needed something for me to drive that was going to be a little easier on gas, but not too small to perform certain duties on the farm.
I got online and was doing some research for small trucks, while doing this research I came across a few "wagon/hatchback cars" that looked like they could work for me and had better gas mileage than the smaller trucks. I had seen some of the earlier PT Cruisers on the highway and they reminded me of the old woody. I started searching the used car lots in our area and was shocked to see the 2007 PT Cruiser's at below 10,000. The cheap price, retro look and better gas mileage than my truck convinced me to get one of these cute little cars.
So, the reason I bought my 2007 PT Cruiser was because it was better on gas mileage than my truck. Cruiser gets 23 (country)/ 27 (highway), 23 MPG is awesome for where I drive this car most often. If you are expecting 50 miles to the gallon, do not purchase the PT cruiser, it will not do it. I also bought the PT Cruiser for the neat retro look it had, it did not look like a mini van, and the price under 10,000 was hard to pass up, there was nothing else on the lot that even caught my eye for this price. I did want a standard transmission, but all they had were automatics. The standard was rated by the EPA to get better gas mileage.
I was shocked when I sat down in the drivers seat with ease, I did not have to " fall down into it" nor did I have to "climb up out of it", and I did not feel like I have fallen into a pit that I could not get out of. It sets higher off the ground than a compact car. I had more room in the drivers seat than I had expected to have. My passengers have more room in the back seat of this car than they had in the back seat of my truck! It was a bit of a challenge going from automatic on the column to an automatic floor shifter, but you get used to it.
I bought the 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser GT Hatchback, I did get the plane Jane model, meaning there is no cruise control option, seats are manual, no window tinting, no sun roof, need I go on? I have to say that if I was to have thought a little harder I would have opted to get a PT Cruiser that came with cruise control, but with the lack of horse power this model has there was no need for it. I do not want to say that this little retro fun car is wimpy, but do not try to run no Indy 500 with it! They were not made for high speed chases, this is a fun easy going car. If you have the need for speed consider something with more horsepower.
I have been very lucky (knock on wood) to date, and not had any problems with my Cruiser. I have the oil changed every 3000-4000 miles, I keep the tires inflated properly and all four evenly.
I almost forgot to mention, the 2007 PT Cruiser has front driver and passenger airbags, it has a feature that knows the weight of the item or person in the passenger seat and automatically shuts off when the weight is under 75 pounds.
Bottom line is that I myself have been very happy with this cute little retro ride, I am a common person that does not need fancy frills. The car gets much better gas Mileage than my truck and has room enough to haul 600 pounds of feed. Drive it, before you buy it. Research on-line, look at pictures of the interior, ask the seller what options come with the car, if the car does not come with something you desire, ask if another model does, it's that simple.
